An interactive museum at home to Lorient

Built at the initiative of the German army during World War II, the submarine base propelled Lorient into the heart of the Battle of the Atlantic. The largest military fortress in Europe, it was later used by the French Navy as the headquarters of the Atlantic submarine squadron until 1997.
 

Since 2010, the submarine Flore-S645 has been based at the former Lorient submarine base. It is one of four submarines open to the public in France.
